WHAT DOES KOHELET DO BEST? |
|
|
Well, quite a lot….but SHABBATONS are wayyyy up there. And our upcoming in-town Shabbaton on Friday evening, July 26th through Saturday evening, July 27th will be no exception. We look forward to several learning sessions with outstanding teacher Ellyn Hutt, socializing with one another over leisurely and delicious meals (you don’t have to cook!), a spirited Shabbat service, song, schmoozing, and our grand finale, which will be quite grand indeed:
(Drum roll): An art opening of Jonathan Katz’s extraordinary artwork on Saturday evening! Jonathan will speak about his unique and fascinating street photography process at this lovely wine-and-cheese/dessert event. If you’d like a preview of Jonathan’s work, his website is: www.streetphotoswithatwist.com
Registration prices are very reasonable (click here to register) for a full and enriching mini-weekend of camaraderie, study, spirituality and culture (oh, and did we mention scrumptious meals that will be provided?) OUR 10% DISCOUNT OFFER HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO THIS FRIDAY (6/28), SO REGISTER NOW before it expires.
Come one, come all to this delightful event. We hope to see you there!

THE SPY BEHIND HOME PLATE
Fri., June 28
There is a new film coming to Denver. Aviva Kempner’s The Spy Behind Home Plate is the first feature-length documentary to tell the real story of Morris “Moe” Berg, the enigmatic and brilliant Jewish baseball player turned spy. Berg caught and fielded in the major leagues during baseball’s Golden Age in the 1920s and 1930s. But very few people know that Berg also worked for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), spying in Europe and playing a prominent role in America’s efforts to undermine the German atomic bomb program during WWII.
The movie will be debuting at Chez artiste Theatre on June 28.

IS THE COFFEEHOUSE A PROBLEM FOR JEWS?
Was/is the coffeehouse a den of iniquity or is it a good place to be, even on Shabbat? Does the coffee house environment of “leisure culture compete with the traditional Jewish lifestyle of worship?”
Seven rabbinic discussions about coffee houses within fifteen years tell us how pressing and how complex is this issue (and even suggest some answer for us).
Where and when do you think those discussions occurred?
